Mow To Own Program

Step 1.Identify an Eligible Lot

• Lot may not exceed 40 feet frontage
• Lot may not be contiguous to three or more city owned parcels
• The lot must be the property of City of Augustus for a minimum of three 3 years
• Lot must be vacant and unimproved real property
• Search for Eligible Properties

Step 2.Maintenance Requirements

During the 24 month period, the applicant must agree to: 

• Keep property free and clear of debris and excess vegetation
• Comply with City ordinances, including keeping grass cut to no higher than seven inches
• Pay current real estate taxes assessed on the lot. 

Step 3.Applicant Qualifications

Applicant must have paid all real estate taxes on al properties that they own in the City of Augustus, and have no outstanding violations on those properties.  Applicants must own property with an occupied residential or commercial structure, immediately adjacent to the desired lot. 

Step 4.Make sure you have time to complete the form

This form will take about 5 minutes to complete. You'll be able to save your entry and resume later if you need more time. 

Step 5.Pay Fees

Fees required are as follows:

• $25.00 application processing fee.
• $100.00 administrative fee, which includes recording costs for the initial deed and subsequent release of the maintenance item.
• There is no additional cost for the land itself.

Step 6.What to Expect

Each application to the Mow To Own program will be reviewed by staff within 3 business days.  Once approved you will receive instructions to report maintenance performed each week.
