Step 1.Residential Accesory Permitting Requirements

Residential accessory structures, including non-habitable storage sheds, workshops, gazebos, cabanas, and similar non-habitable structures, greater than 120 square feet require a permit. 

A structure may be exempt from building permit requirements if the structure does not exceed a floor area of 120 square feet. Even though a permit may not be required, all structures must meet Municipal Code Planning and Zoning requirements for use, placement on the parcel, and design. Any electrical, mechanical, or plumbing work associated with accessory structures also requires a permit (whether it is 120 square feet or not).

Step 3.Plan Review

Plan review is required for this type of project. You need to submit the following forms and plans:

  • Owner-Builder Verification Form
  • Site Plan
  • Elevation
  • Floor Plan
  • Structural Plan
  • Structural calculations, if required

Step 4.Time to apply

This application will take 5 minutes once you've gathered the required information identified below. You can save you application and resume later if you need more time.

Step 5.Have payment ready

Be prepared to pay fees associated with your permit. 

Step 6.Approval, finalization

Once your completed application is received with proper filing order together with the correct filing fee, the review turn around time is 2 days.
