Apply for a Drinking Water Operating Permit

According to the Safe Drinking Water Act, any water system that supplies more than 25 people is classified as a public water system (PWS).  Starting May 12, 2022, you can apply for both state and local operating permits in one step here.

Step 1.Compliance Review 

A drinking water system compliance review must be requested no moreEthan 30 days prior to submissions of this application. Fee is $250.

Step 2.Certified Operator

All public water systems must obtain the services of a certified water operator. Certified operators are required to inspect each well site a minimum of once per month.

Step 3.New Source Approval

New source approval is required for all water sources used by the PWS. Some applications may require a chemical analysis.

Step 4.Engineering Approval 

Submit all construction plans sealed by a professional engineering. 

Step 5.Operating Permit Issuance

Once all applicable approvals have been received, the permit will be issued to the permit owner/holder. This may take up to 30 business days.
