Fireworks may only be discharged in the City of Augustus on the following days:
- July 2 through 5 - 11 a.m. to 11 p.m (until Midnight on July 4th)
- Dec. 31 through Jan. 1 - 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Jan 1
- Chinese New Year's Eve - 11 a.m. until 1 a.m. the following day.
NOTE: During the upcoming season, Augustus Fire will have additional personnel available to educate and enforce fireworks codes and restrictions. Click on the map to see if fireworks are restricted in your neighborhood.
Fireworks are restricted in the following areas:
- All areas east of Oak Street
- All areas north of the old Firehouse
- Creek Canyon
- All city parks and woodland urban interface araes
- All areas west of Redwood
NOTE: Those caught violating firework restrictions may incur a $1000 fine.
Safety tips for discharging fireworks:
- Use fireworks outdoors only
- Obey local laws. If fireworks are not legal where you live, do not use them!
- Always have water handy (a hose of buckets of water)
- Only use fireworks as intended. DO NOT try to alter them or combine them
- Never re-light a "dud" firework (wait 20 minutes and then soak in a bucket of water)
- Use common sense when using fireworks. Spectators should keep safe distance from the fireworks. The person lighting the fireworks should wear safety glasses
- Alcohol and fireworks do not mix!
- Only persons over the age of 12 should be allowed to handle sparklers of any type
- DO NOT ever use homemade fireworks or illegal explosives. They can kill!
- Parents should supervise their children
- Place spent fireworks in a bucket of water fo at least 12 hours before discarding into a garbage can
